The meaning of the word “support” today is often associated with the idea of a crutch. It can evoke frustration when thinking about online support systems, where you speak to people who ask the same questions repeatedly, wasting your time and leaving you without a solution. Such experiences can lead to negative feelings.
However, the original meaning of support is to bear weight for someone, either fully or partially. If you reflect on this, you may become more careful about claiming to provide support to anyone in any situation. Additionally, it is essential to be completely aware of why you are offering support. Is it truly necessary? Are you giving someone what they want, rather than what they actually need?
Some people associate the concept of support with a lack of responsibility or weakness. They may think that needing support means one is not self-sufficient.
This is a misconception. Support is often thought of only in times of difficulty, but we also require support when we are striving toward our goals. It is not just about needing help “from” a problem; it is about seeking assistance “to” achieve something. Good intentions alone may not be sufficient; sometimes, expert advice is essential. Likewise, a lack of motivation is not something to feel ashamed of—finding ways to regain motivation, or seeking someone who can guide you in that process, is entirely acceptable.
Needing support does not imply that anything is wrong with you or your life. You may have a wonderful life! There is always room for growth and more joy. That is where we come in. We do not just solve problems; we also create beautiful and unforgettable experiences.
